Our products
Southern Palladium is developing one of the world’s most prospective PGM projects. PGMs are rare, versatile and indispensable to modern life – powering cleaner technologies, supporting the global shift to a low-carbon economy and enabling products people use every day.

Platinum
Platinum is valued for its durability and resistance to heat and corrosion. It is widely used in:
- Automotive catalysts to reduce harmful emissions
- Clean energy technologies, including fuel cells for hydrogen-powered vehicles
- Jewellery, where its beauty and resilience make it a metal of choice
- Medical devices, thanks to their biocompatibility

Palladium
Palladium is critical to cleaner air and greener mobility. It is used in:
- Catalytic converters, especially in petrol engines, to cut air pollution
- Electronics, such as connectors and sensors
- Hydrogen purification and storage technologies
- Jewellery, where it is often alloyed with gold to create “white gold”

Rhodium
Rhodium is one of the rarest and most valuable PGMs, essential for:
- Automotive catalysts, where it is highly effective in reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions
- Specialist industrial applications, including glass manufacturing and chemical processing
- Jewellery finishes, where it is used for its bright, reflective surface

A future-defining role
Together, PGMs are central to the global decarbonisation journey. They reduce emissions, enable cleaner energy systems and are vital in hydrogen technologies — making them metals of the future as much as metals of today.

Why PGMs?
Globally, PGMs – particularly platinum, palladium and rhodium – are well-positioned with strong long-term demand trends as key metals for the industries of the future. Recognised as strategic by major economies including Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, the EU, the UK, the USA and South Africa, PGMs are essential to global progress.
These rare noble metals have unique properties that make them ideally suited to a range of key automotive, artificial intelligence (storage devices), industrial, medical, jewellery, and investment applications.
PGMs have not only contributed to a significant cleaning of the emissions created by vehicles with internal combustion engines, but are also key in hybrids and the hydrogen economy space. With declining mine supply and growing demand creating structural deficits, the long-term outlook for PGMs is stronger than at any point since the global financial crisis in 2008.
In addition, South Africa’s mining industry – the ‘global home of PGMs’ – remains a focal point for international investors seeking exposure to this vital sector.
